Our school is well into the new school year.  In fact, our first quarter is wrapping up this week.  Reflecting back on it, I can't help but feel more frustrated than anything else.  We began school back on August 18 because of a harvest break we give the students to help with our local harvest in September.  That means we're in school for a month then take 2 weeks off.  This would be great, and

Man, lots has happened this school year.  I haven't gotten back to blogging here because things have gotten pretty hectic and we've had some major distractions, too.  Money makes the world go round, and it can create stress and frustration.  We've dealt this year with personnel cuts looming over our heads.  Four departments were slated to be cut, one from the English department (namely me), one

It's been quite a while since I've written anything in my blog.  Sorry about that folks.  Here in Northern Maine, our schedule runs in such a way where we begin school in mid to late August, then at the end of September, we take 2 weeks off while the potato farmers harvest their crops, then we jump back into things until our next official break in December.  This year, we started the same, but

One of the most difficult things I struggle with is teaching grammar.  I was good at it in school, but never great.  I could identify what kind of sentence it was and where the nouns, pronouns, verbs, objects, prepositions, etc. were.  You get the idea.  The basic stuff, but beyond that, I never got past the basics in school.  In college, they don't teach grammar, because they assume that that

Got to love block scheduling!  In our school, the days are either blue or white, and today was a blue day, which meant that I had an 80 minute planning.  I came in early, 6:30 early.  Why?  Well, there were a few factors involved.  One, Hubby was home and was able to see the boys off to school, so I didn't have to wait for a reasonable time to get them out the door. Hubby took care of everything.
